Gattace essays Gattaca shows us the dangers of uncontrolled technology. I definitely feel that Gattaca illustrates this very well. This movie was made sometime ago and though genetic engineering and modification is something that has been around for some time now, it has progressed so much more in recent years, and it can be quite scary to some. Gattaca presents a world that states most of our fears of what could result from genetic engineering. We see this through the apparent lack of humanity and oppressive society that Gattaca lies within; people cease to be human, genes replace identities, and the manufacturing of society functions on science in a cold manner. This point is demonstrated throughout the movie; many of the characters are presented as cold and institutionalized peoplefor example, when Vincent and Irene begin to develop their relationship it appears to be somewhat cold. Rather than first getting to know Vincent as a person Irene takes Vincents hair to be sequenced and sees that he is suitable to start a relationship with. The masses of perfectly groomed, identically black suited men and women filing into Gattaca, having no conversation or interaction with each other, create a sense that this society is a bleak look into the future. After watching this movie you become aware that much this very same type of biogenetic engineering is actually going on now, this is becoming more of a reality and increasingly more so in the future. In Gattaca, parents pay to create designer babies with genetic interference to ensure that they have all the perfection possibly. Likewise in this day and age, plastic surgery, botox injections and other such advanced technology have become massively accessible, particularly for those who have the money to spend on it. He has been working for Jackson Co. for almost two years now. Hes pretty sure that hell be working for them next year as well. His job requires a lot of travel. This time he is going to fly from Paris after a meeting with the companys French partner. Hell have been sitting for over 18 hours by the time he arrives! John was talking with his parents earlier this evening when his girlfriend from New York telephoned to let him know that Jackson Co. had decided to merge with a company in Australia. The two companies had been negotiating for the past month, so it really wasnt much of a surprise. Of course, this means that John will have to catch the next plane back to New York.
